Engaging Dementia provides training, resources and supports for people with dementia and their carers.
Its training and activities are focused on improving wellbeing for people with dementia through the use of music, sensory interventions, the outdoors, the creative arts, and a range of evidence based therapeutic activities.
Engaging Dementia pioneered the first Alzheimer Cafe in Ireland (2011) and was appointed Co-ordinator of the National Alzheimer Cafe Project in late 2019. The project involves bringing together the current Alzheimer and dementia cafes in Ireland, and developing a toolkit to support the start up of new dementia cafes into the future.
Engaging Dementia runs the biggest annual dementia in Ireland, a two day conference featuring expert speakers and innovative projects from Ireland and abroad. It was part of the Dementia Friendly Garden Team that brought award-winning dementia gardens to the Bloom Festival in 2017 and 2018, and is involved in a range of community initiatives.
A registered charity, Engaging Dementia is supported by the HSE and a partner of Dementia Understand Together.
