Camphill Communities of Ireland

Not-For-Profit Information

Camphill Communities of Ireland is a not-for-profit charity, supporting adults with intellectual disability and other care needs. We provide both residential and day services at 15 locations throughout the country, three of which are located in Co Kildare. Each person with a disability supported by Camphill has different needs. Camphill has responded by establishing centres that cater to those needs, constantly adapting itself to meet changes and challenges as they arise.

In Camphill, we believe that mutual support and respect for each other, creates a healthy environment. The core of community is nurturing community social bonds, recognition of the dignity of people with support needs, and the giving and sharing of all in communal life.

We acknowledge every person's right to equality and self-determination and encourage participation in decision-making in work, social, cultural, and home life. Emphasis is on life skills learned through everyday activities. Providing support and opportunities for self-advocacy and decision making, and opportunities to learn social skills and to form social connections. We provide training in vocational skills through practical experiences in a number of vocational training facilities, working at trainees’ own pace with achievable yet challenging learning objectives.

Our communities offer social farming, candle making, basket weaving, art, drama, gardening to name but a few. We also have community cafes, craft shops and organic vegetable markets, in which our community members with support needs work alongside volunteers from the community and meet and work with the wider public. Camphill creates mutually supportive environments that support people to live the life they wish and fulfil their potential by nurturing community social bonds, providing safe places to live and opportunities for people to find meaning and belonging.
