Business Development Trustee

The Organisation:

VSO Ireland is a proud Irish charity working creating lasting change through volunteering for development. Driving volunteer impact to deliver improved health, education and livelihoods in local communities and across countries in Africa and Asia. We specifically work with some of the poorest and most marginalised communities mobilising groups to give them more voice and to hold duty bearers to account.

The work of VSO Ireland enables people and communities to play a more active role in their own development. We value inclusion, empowerment, ownership and active participation to deliver long-term change.

VSO Ireland forms part of the international VSO community. For over 60 years, VSO has worked in over 90 countries and with over 80,000 local, national and international volunteers to support over 50 million people. During 2021/22 we reached over 8 million people.

General Trustee duties of a Charity Trustee:

  • Comply with the charity’s governing document
  • Ensuring charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit
  • Acting in the best interest of the charity
  • Act with reasonable care and skill
  • Manage the assets of the charity

The Role:

VSO Ireland are seeking a trustee with a Business Development background. If you have experience in this area and want to play a role in helping us, we’re keen to hear from you.

General Responsibilities of the Business Development Trustee will include the following:

  • Oversight of the ongoing development of VSO Ireland’s revenue pipelines in conjunction with management and the Board.
  • Oversight of the public fundraising operations  carried out by VSO Ireland
  • Contribute to the development of the visibility, profile and brand of the charity to a variety of audiences to enable it to fulfil its mission and aims
  • Policy formation and implementation as required

Desirable skills:

  • The candidate must be a qualified business professional, ideally with at least 5 years’ experience in strategy development, stakeholder relations and business scenario planning
  • Appreciation and understanding of group governance structures and the role of a subsidiary
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Commitment to highest levels of corporate governance
  • A deep appreciation and knowledge of the Not-For-Profit sector

Board Meetings:

There will be up to three board meetings a year and meetings are held online. Typically, meetings last up to two hours.
