About Youth New Ross (YNR):

Youth New Ross was founded in 1994 by a group of dedicated professionals for the benefit of young people, and their families in the New Ross and surrounding area.  YNR is a company and charity limited by guarantee and managed by a voluntary board of directors from the community it serves.  YNR has grown to provide a range of youth and family services with a team of over 12 part-time and full-time staff.  Below is a brief summary of our work:

The Family Project:

The Family Project has been established since early 2006 within YNR and is funded by Tusla (The Child and Family Agency). Initially working in the New Ross Urban area it now works with families in the greater South Wexford Area.

Families needs constantly change over time and sometimes families can do with some support. The Family Project offers direct work to support children, young people and families. We can work with children, young people, individuals, couples, families or small groups.

The Family Project can provide information and support around issues such as parenting, sexual health, separation, child’s wellbeing, emotional or behavioural problems, ASD etc. We can also help families to find other relevant services.

We work with families in their homes or in local schools or community buildings across South Wexford which are convenient for the family or young person. We are also involved in delivering/facilitating groups in conjunction with other agencies.

The Creative Communities Project (CCA Project):

Led and funded by Tusla (The Child and Family Agency) The CCA project aims to develop an innovative service to address the identified needs of children, young people and their families who have experienced significant and complex factors in their lives including neglect, parental separation, attachment issues, alcohol and/or drug issues, mental health issues and economic disadvantage. It will form the basis for a holistic service designed to develop the problem solving skill, coping skills and self –efficacy of the young people and their family members. An emphasis is placed on integrating children and young people into their community and on strengthening the family’s social support network to maintain young people out of the care system.

The 3 cohorts of young people in Waterford/Wexford are:

Young people in residential care (with a view to come home/step  down) – (Level 4)

Young people in foster care (with a view to preventing placement breakdown) – ( Level 3/4)

Young people who are at home and on the brink of needing to come into care – (Level 3/4)

The Youth Project

Funded by Waterford Wexford Educational Training Board on behalf of the Department of Children and Youth Affairs the YNR Youth Project is a community-based project delivering, safe, social, innovative supports and programmes for the development of young people from targeted areas of our community.   This includes providing after school groups for young people and young adults, support programmes for teenagers and work with individual young people. We achieve this through  developing self-confidence by involving young people in activities that are achievable and fun. Ensuring  time for young people to be themselves Support young people in their personal development. Providing a safe place where young people can express their opinions and receive constructive feedback and support.
