Not-For-Profit Information

Wicklow Democratic School is Ireland's first school for self-directed learning. We provide a safe and inspiring space for children aged 5 - 18 to educate themselves and explore their interests and passions in an age mixed and non-coercive environment. The school community makes decisions on rules, activities and any other proposals in a democratic fashion, giving each student and staff member an equal vote.

We are a small but growing not-for profit organisation registered with the CRA.

The main object for which the organisation is established for is the setting up, opening and maintaining of a democratic school for children aged 5-18 and the provision of an environment that fully supports the freedom of each individual for self-initiated, self-motivated and self-regulated learning; providing a curriculum determined by the interests of students; equal status is given to all pursuits; allowing the opportunities and responsibilities of governing the school to be shared among students and staff; conflicts are resolved with the help of restorative practise and non-violent communication.
