The RVEEH was established in 1897. Since then it has provided Ophthalmology and Otolargology (ENT) services primarily to the residents of Dublin and South Leinster. In addition to this we provide ophthalmology services to Portlaoise,Mullingar, Tullamore, Waterford and Cork hospitals.
The RVEEH is a national center to which complex ophthalmology cases are referred from other hospitals throughout the country. The hospital is committed to patient safety and service quality. In May 2017 the hospital was successfully re-accredited by Joint Commission International - RVEEH is one of only two public hospital in Ireland to have achieved this standard. The Hospital was among the best performing hospitals in the country
RVEEH is part of the Ireland East Hospital Group and is a teaching hospital with academic links to UCD, TCD, RCSI and DCU.
The Hospital published strategic reviews of both Ophthlamology (2015) and ENT (2015) services.
