The Radharc Film Archive contains over 400 Documentary Films produced by a small group of Dublin Priests for RTE from 1961 to 1996. Shot in 75 countries around the world they looked at life from a religious, social and cultural point of view.
They were among the most popular programmes on Irish television during that time and won many awards at home and abroad.
The Archive contains a unique and very valuable record of religious, social and cultural life in many countries during the second half of the 20th. Century.
The Radharc Trust is responsible for their preservation and continued use.
The mission of the Trust is threefold
To work with all forms of media,especially with films.
To promote Christian and strong human values in the media.
to maintain the legacy of the Radharc Films.
Our main programmes are :-
Work on the preservation and promotion of the Archive.
Hosting the Radharc Awards for quality television documentaries and short films in the tradition and ethos of Radharc
Sponsoring the annual Radharc Award at the Limerick Fresh Film Festival for young filmmakers aged 8 to 18.
Encouraging young aspiring filmmakers to challenge faith and social issues.
Grant aiding disadvantaged young filmmakers.
Promoting educational, archival and film festival screenings of Radharc Films .
Planning Radharc Awards for other sections of the Media.
Planning a Radharc lecture series on serious topics of moral, social and national interet.
