Not-For-Profit Information

Photoworks North is an Educational Charity that for over 35 has helped developed and strengthened the photographic community in Ireland and the UK through its publishing activities in print and online. We encourage a greater understanding of photography and a greater understanding of the world through photography. Source’s core function is to increase reader's engagement with the arts through a critical discussion of photographic culture.

The publication of a printed magazine, Source Photographic Review four times a year is at the core of the organization. The same magazine also exists as a digital edition. All back issues from 1992 are now digitized. If you would like to see a sample issue contact us at john@source.ie and we can send a link to the digital edition. The magazine has a news section, features on a wide range of issues connected to how photography is used, individual photographers portfolios and an photography exhibitions and books reviews section as well as regular columns.

We have a free to access website with over 5000 pages of content this has indexed and searchable back issue content. You can search individual photographers or by a particular genre of photography. It is a good introduction to who we are. Our website is Source.ie

We are quite active on social media bluesky (@sourcephoto.bsky.social ) and instagram (Source Photographic Review ) and we use these platforms to let people know about what we are working on. We also use this to let people know about a range of opportunities and events relevant to the photographic community.

We produce a quarterly enewsletter that brings together some of the material from our social media alongside additional opportunities. These mix things that are happening in Belfast, Ireland, UK and Internationally. Its free to sign up to on our website.

We have run Source Graduate Photography Online since 2007 which is an online platform working with groups of graduating students from over 45 Universities to publish their final Degree and MA work.

We also run an annual writing prize on photography to encourage new writers. And we run regular feedback sessions for photographers about their work.
