Over 15 million people in 160 countries take part in the game of Olympic Handball. The Irish Olympic Handball Association (“IOHA”) acts as the NGB for the sport of Olympic handball for the whole island of Ireland.

Established in 1975, the IOHA is recognised by the Irish Sports Council, Olympic Council of Ireland, the European Handball Federation and the International Handball Federation as the sole governing body for the sport of Olympic handball in Ireland.
In order to grow the profile of handball in Ireland and Ireland in handball, the IOHA will strategically position itself as a key player in European and global handball by regularly hosting of seminars, tournaments and executive meetings.
Our ambition is to build performances from underage level up to place Ireland in a stronger position to compete with major European handball nations.

Mission Statement: “To develop Olympic handball as a visible and vibrant national team sport played at all levels.“

The IOHA is undergoing a period of transition from a fully amateur organisation to a more professional led approach. Ireland is currently ranked in the third tier of European nations.
