It continues to operate this programme, in partnership with An Garda Síochána, and has developed such important initiatives as Community Text Alert. Community Alert forms a major part of Muintir's current operations, with 1,400 Community Alert Groups supported nationally.

Muintir also supports 200 Community Councils nationally, providing advice and support on issues such as corporate governance and fundraising.

These groups are supported by a small network of Development Officers, operating nationally. They are supported by a Head Office staff based in Tipperary Town.

Muintir na Tíre is a national voluntary organisation dedicated to promoting the process of community development. Founded the organisation in 1937, Muintir na Tíre aims to enhance the capacities of people in communities, rural and urban, to become involved in local social, economic, cultural and environmental development.

The organisation has been in the forefront of rural development since its inception. It has been the pioneer, instigator, motivator and the mentor to many local community groups and this is the role with which it is most competent. Muintir’s role focuses primarily on the animation and capacity building of local communities and this is complementary to the role which other agencies and organisations play in the process of community development.
