Limerick Island Community Partners has been in existence for over 25 years and has a long-standing history of representing and serving the community of St. Mary’s Parish. It was originally known as St. Mary’s Integrated Development Programme (S.M.I.D.P) which established King’s Island Youth and Community Centre in 1995.
In 2001, it became a company limited by guarantee and adopted the name of St. Mary’s A.I.D. Ltd. In 2003, St. Mary’s A.I.D amalgamated with the Parish Awareness Development Group (P.A.D.G). In 2007, the organisation moved to The Widow Alms Houses - its current head office location. In 2018, King's Island Youth and Community Centre and St. Mary’s A.I.D took the decision to amalgamate following a period of joint working with an Interim Board. A sustainability review of its enterprises, projects, services and supports was undertaken which culminated, in May 2020, with the establishment of a new organisation - Limerick Island Community Partners CLG.
LICP, operating now out of three sites within the community, as a multi-faceted organisation that delivers through sustainable community development. Its main aim is to empower and support local people to effect positive change in their own lives and in the wider community.
Working with a board made up of local residents and other volunteers with particular expertise in areas such as public funding, local government and education, along with volunteers from the local community, LICP is committed to and actively involved in tackling the social, educational, health, economic, and environmental problems facing the community.
Our vision is to be the one-stop community organisation in Limerick Island positively supporting a happy, healthy, thriving Limerick Island community.
