Objectives

Our practical experience over the last few years has lead us to defining our objectives as

  • To help all those people in the Kilbarrack area who have become involved with drugs or alcohol.
  • To act as a support and referral agency for these people.
  • To provide counseling and personal development training to these people so that they will begin to address their own drug problem.
  • To provide good quality training to these people so that when they address their drug problem they may then be in a position to re-enter the labour market.
  • To work with the young people of the area providing them with activities and developing a drug/alcohol prevention model.
  • To work with the local schools, football clubs, community associations, youth clubs and all interested parties to develop our community

  • KCCP’s achievements to date.

    • The expansion of our range of services from adult drugs rehabilitation (including Woman in Recovery group) to include a range of youth services operating under the banner of Youth Matters.

    • The introduction of family support services.

    • The introduction of focused services to the children of drug mis-users.

    • The introduction of a targeted service in partnership with SASSY (Substance Abuse Service Specific to Youth) for people under the age of eighteen who are experiencing problems with alcohol or drugs.

    • The expansion of our services to include counselling, support and referral to help people with alcohol problems in line with Government policy.

    • The introduction of a care plan system for participants on our drugs rehabilitation programme and for people from the community in line with the standards advocated by the National Drugs Rehabilitation Implementation Committee (NDRIC).

    • The development of partnerships with State Agencies and other community and voluntary organisations.

    • The development of a community counselling service.

    The development of a service targeting young adults mis using cannabis, alcohol and tablets.

    Year on year KCCP has responded to the ever-changing nature of alcohol/drug addiction in our community.

    • We have provided childcare throughout the year and targeted summer projects for the children of alcohol/drug mis-users.

    • In 2008 KCCP received an Aontas Star Award for being the best adult education centre in Dublin.

    • Despite cuts in our core and training budgets and the withdrawal of funding from supporting bodies brought about by the recession we have continued to maintain our emphasis on training and development for our client group.

    • Despite the changed financial environment we have maintained staff supervision and we are committed to staff training.

    • KCCP has continued to develop and implement policies on a range of issues in order to operate to the highest governance standards.

    • In line with our community development ethos we have provided community health and well being services to all age groups.
