We are a community based co-operative business. We actively promote local ownership of renewable energy - creating benefits for the local community
Our mission is to enable local communities in Kerry to become more resilient and self-reliant by developing and supporting strategies and practical initiatives that replace dependence on fossil fuels by locally owned sustainable renewable and economic alternatives.
Aims:
- To substitute our reliance on imported and non-renewable energy with locally sourced and owned energy
- To increase security of energy supply to members
- To educate on energy wastage and increase awareness in citizens and communities about the need for and benefits of renewable energy
- To reduce fuel poverty
Current projects include:
Killorglin EMP
As part of an SEAI funded project, together with energy consultants we are pulling together an Energy Master Plan (EMP) for Killorglin. This has involved mapping the energy usage of Killorglin using central statistics office (CSO) data and looking at opportunities to retrofit homes and businesses in Killorglin and develop local renewable energy projects.
Reducing your Energy Costs Roadshow
This LEADER funded project is touring the main towns in the county delivering a free three part course for Kerry residents. Part 1 of the course covers information on low cost ways to save energy in a home or business. Part 2 covers retrofitting your home and all that is involved in that. The course also covers information on the different types of renewable energy, grants available and community energy. For part 3 the energy consultant delivering the course is providing home visits for those course participants interested in getting advice specifically related to their own home or business.
