Irish Seed Savers Association has been in operation since 1991 collecting and growing heritage crops with the intention of preserving and rescuing heritage varieties that were fast disappearing. Managing Ireland’s only public living Seed Bank, storing and distributing the seeds of 600 heritage vegetable varieties and 48 heritage grain varieties, we have a duty to protect and preserve heritage and heirloom crops that would otherwise be lost to future generations. In recent years we have expanded into the preservation of heritage varieties from all over the world that are best suited to cultivation in an Irish climate, putting food security on the agenda and inspiring other movements in organic farming and sustainable gardening.practices. We run a 20 acre organic working farm that is open to the public. It is Irish Seed Savers aim to connect with the wider public to support the protection of our unique food and environmental heritage.
