Inishturk Community Club CLG

Not-For-Profit Information

Rising boldly from the wild Atlantic Ocean, Inishturk is a small island 14km from the west coast of Ireland. Renowned for the warmth of its community, unspoilt natural beauty and views of the Connemara coastline, it is home to 60 people and receives 3000 tourists per year.

Inishturk Community Club CLG was officially incorporated in 1991, following efforts by a group of islanders to plan, construct and operate a community centre on the island since the mid-1980s.

Thanks to the massive voluntary effort from locals, this dream was achieved and Inishturk Community Club was officially opened by Uachtarán na hÉireann Mary Robinson in 1993 as a communal space for the island's residents. Since then, Inishturk Community Club CLG has evolved to become a thriving registered charity and social enterprise responsible.

Since 1993, whilst the island population has slightly declined, the company has overseen community development for the island, focusing on retaining and generating employment and services, and operating facilities including the community centre, bar/restaurant, shop, activity pitch & tourist accommodation.

We are extremely grateful to central & local government, funding bodies, philanthropy groups and private donations for their support of Inishturk Island. In particular The Department of Rural & Community Development, Pobal, Comhar na nOileáin, Mayo County Council, South West Mayo Development Company, The Tomar Trust, The Ireland Funds and MSLETB.
