Not-For-Profit Information

CIPS is the national Citizens Information Phone Service, based in Cork. It operates in many respects as a conventional call centre, using call centre technology (‘Interactive Intelligence’ telephony, IT and floor management systems and a call-centre Business Information package).

CIPS provides expert information and advice directly to the public via the 0761 07 4000 telephone number. This is the vast bulk of its business. Over 140,000 telephone enquiries were responded to by the CIPS team of Information Officers during 2017. Live Advisor: is a webchat service intended to assist those with hearing or speech impediments or who experience other barriers to communication by telephone. CIPS launched a Peer Support service in 2016, initially (in February) as a regional pilot project under the direction of a steering group consisting of CIPS, CIB and CIS personnel. The service was mainstreamed in May 2016, and is available to all 42 Citizens Information Services (CISs) nationwide.
