Cairdeas Kilmovee Family Resource Centre has been in operation since 2017. We are one of 121 Family Resource Centres (FRCs) nationwide delivering Ireland's largest community-based family support programme. Core funding is from Tusla, the child and family agency. Cairdeas Kilmovee FRC is one of the few FRCs in rural areas and works mainly in the parish of Kilmovee and Kilkelly. Cairdeas Kilmovee FRC is entering an exciting phase of development as we are in the process of buying the premises of our Kilkelly outreach office and our charity shop.
The primary purpose of the FRC programme is to combat disadvantages and to strengthen and empower individuals, families, children and our local communities. We involve local people in identifying needs and addressing the issues they face. FRCs provide a range of universal and targeted services and development opportunities that address the needs of families and individuals.
Our staff and volunteers provide family support and organise parenting courses, Foroige and youth activities, food provision, counselling, Active Age groups, and help with individualised advice, employment and grant applications. We also have our own charity shop in Kilkelly.
Our FRC is led by a Voluntary Board of Directors which aims to identify and address the specific needs of our rural community.
Our Board is seeking socially conscious individuals that are willing to devote some time to support the Board, using their own experiences, life skills and knowledge. If you are someone who likes to develop a strong organisation and support community development in a rural area, then this is the position for you.
Board Members are expected to attend about ten board meetings per year (ideally face-to-face, but online attendance is also possible), as well as participate in Sub-Groups. You may also be asked to be reasonably accessible for ad-hoc meetings in between scheduled Board meetings and sub-group/task task meetings.
The Board of Cairdeas Kilmovee FRC is responsible for giving overall strategic direction to the organisation, defining controls to safeguard financial resources and fulfill legal obligations, creating annual plans, overseeing staffing issues and liaising with key stakeholders.
We particularly welcome applications from people who have skills and expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Health and Safety and/or Building maintenance
HR
Finance and admin
Working with vulnerable people and/or rural communities
Board governance of public organisations
