Business for Biodiversity Ireland is a science-policy-practice interface working at the national level. Based on a business membership model, it convenes actors from different sectors to support greater integration of biodiversity and ecosystem services considerations into business decision-making, thereby contributing to the protection, conservation and regeneration of biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Business for Biodiversity Ireland (BFBI) takes its mandate from the National Parks and Wildlife Service, having been established as action 1.1.12 of Ireland’s 3rd National Biodiversity Action Plan which set out to “Establish a national Business and Biodiversity Platform under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity’s Global Business Partnership”. The platform owns 7 actions under the current 4th National Biodiversity Action Plan.
Since its inception in 2021 BFBI has become a high-profile entity given the incredible momentum of policy for biodiversity and the business reporting on nature-related risks. BFBI contractors are in high demand to contribute to panels, speak on radio and news programming and consult directly with the Boards of Irish businesses. BFBI is currently in its final year of government seed-funding and is transitioning from a project of Natural Capital Ireland to a stand alone social enterprise.
