Ballyfermot STAR has been operating in the Ballyfermot community since 1998. STAR stands for support treatment aftercare and rehabilitation. In 1999 the project was registered as a charity. It is incorporated as a limited company and has six Directors who are made up of volunteers from the community voluntary and statutory sectors. Ballyfermot STAR is a community-based organisation with an emphasis on providing a response to drug misuse at a local level. The project works in partnership with the Statutory Community and Voluntary Sectors in its efforts to provide support treatment aftercare and rehabilitation for those affected by drug alcohol misuse.
Its overall aim is:
- To provide non-judgmental support guidance and education to and for people using drugs or with a history of drug misuse;
- To provide support to parents family members and the community to enable them to cope with and overcome the effects of drug misuse in their everyday life.
