Wexford Volunteer Centre: Volunteer Management

Are you passionate about the value of volunteering and have a successful track record of strategic leadership and volunteer management? Membership on the board of the new Wexford Volunteer Centre is an exciting opportunity to help establish and govern the first Volunteer Centre in the county.

The first step in the establishment of the new Volunteer Centre is the formation of a board of directors. Volunteer Ireland will then support the board to complete the registration process and to recruit staff to manage the Centre. 

The Purpose of this Role

Wexford Volunteer Centre is looking for a member of the new board of directors with a focus on volunteer management. The role involves playing an active role in the organisation’s establishment as well as its governance and strategic direction, while taking a leading role on matters relating to best practice in volunteer management.

Support & Training
Wexford Volunteer Centre has a budget set aside for board director training, and all board members are encouraged to undertake training as part of their new role. Training needs will be identified on an ad hoc basis, and also through a board review process.

Time Commitment
The time requirement of this role will be agreed by the board once it is established. Based on the experience of existing Volunteer Centres, it is estimated at about 10 hours per year for board meetings with additional time required to read papers and prepare in advance of each meeting, plus involvement in sub-committees and advisory roles.

Essential Experience, Skills and Personal Qualities

  • Minimum five years’ professional experience in a volunteer management role in a non-profit organisation
  • Proven interest and engagement with new thinking and ideas regarding the philosophy and future of volunteer management
  •  Experience of strategic planning and service development
  • An enquiring mind, with the confidence to challenge constructively
  • Understanding of the community and voluntary sector landscape in County Wexford

Desirable Experience, Skills and Personal Qualities

The ideal candidate will have experience as a volunteer or volunteer manager, board level experience in the non-profit sector, or experience establishing a non-profit organisation in Ireland.
