Charity Trustee – Marketing Role

The Organisation:

The Neurology Support Centre is a Sligo-based charity, serving those in the Northwest impacted by a neurological condition. Our mission is to provide a range of quality services, supports and activities that will improve the quality of life for all those impacted by a neurological condition; to promote research that can make a tangible difference; and to support the provision of clinical neurological services in our local hospitals.

Our member services include Peer Support Groups, Counselling, holistic therapies including Reflexology and Neuro-reflexology, and other recreational activities including Art, gardening, exercise, etc.

We are currently part-funding a two-year postgraduate bursary in conjunction with ATU Sligo, aimed at developing a remote platform for the monitoring of physiotherapy in MS patients. We have also funded specialist posts in the Neurology Department of Sligo University Hospital and have committed to part-funding a neuro-psychologist to further expand the team.

The Role:

The Neurology Support Centre is seeking to recruit a trustee with a background in marketing. Experience of or interest in fund-raising would also be beneficial.

Charities Regulator’s General Duties of a Charity Trustee:

  • Comply with the Charity’s governing document
  • Ensuring charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit
  • Acting in the best interest of the charity
  • Act with Reasonable Care and Skill
  • Manage the assets of your charity

Responsibilities as a NSC trustee include the following:

  • To oversee the development and implementation of an integrated strategic marketing and fundraising plan to advance brand identity of the NSC
  • Providing input to the strategic direction of the organisation and contributing with insight, oversight, and experience at board meetings and any additional commitments
  • Policy development and implementation as required
  • As a key member of the Marketing sub-committee, responsibility includes overseeing the ongoing development of the organisation’s marketing and fundraising strategy

Desired Skills/Qualities required for these roles:

  • An appreciation and knowledge of the Not-For-Profit sector
  • An understanding of and commitment to our mission and values
  • Commitment to highest levels of corporate governance
  • Interest or experience in fund-raising
  • A relevant marketing qualification and / or at least 5 years management experience in a marketing role

Board Meetings:

There will be 4 board meetings and up to 4 sub-committee meetings a year. Meetings are generally held in Molloway House, Sligo but can be joined remotely also.

You will be expected to attend training for board members as required.
