Generation Ireland, established in 2020, is an affiliate of Generation, a global non-profit organisation originally founded in 2014 by McKinsey & Company. Operating independently and with a presence in 18 countries worldwide, Generation has become a leading force in the education-to-employment non-profit sector, striving to close the gap between skills training and job placement.

Generation Ireland, as a part of this influential network, is deeply committed to its mission of preparing, placing, and supporting individuals in attaining life-changing careers who face multiple barriers to obtaining an entry-level career. The organisation focuses on addressing challenges faced by individuals who are unemployed and underemployed. By leveraging innovative approaches and a global perspective, Generation Ireland aims to make a lasting impact on the local community, providing access to transformative career opportunities and essential support for sustained success.

Since its inception, Generation Ireland has demonstrated commendable dedication to creating positive change in the Irish workforce landscape. Mission

At the heart of Generation Ireland's mission is a dedication to transforming the landscape of education-to-employment pathways.

Through specialised bootcamps in technology and green roles, Generation Ireland empowers diverse and motivated entry-level talent with the essential technical, mindset, and behavioural skills needed for immediate success in their new careers. The organisation's unique approach includes comprehensive mentorship, coaching, and matchmaking services, connecting graduates with over 60 employers across Ireland.

Generation Ireland has garnered recognition through various awards, particularly for its efforts in helping businesses broaden access to job opportunities, thereby contributing to the enhancement of diversity and inclusion in the workforce. The organisation continues to make a positive impact on the lives of its graduates and the broader community, fostering a more inclusive and dynamic workforce landscape in Ireland.  

The Role:

As Generation Ireland undergoes a transition in leadership, the Board is seeking an experienced and dedicated individual to take on the role of Treasurer. The Treasurer will play a crucial part in overseeing the financial health of the organisation, contributing to strategic decisions, and ensuring the effective governance of the charity.

Key Responsibilities for the Treasurer role are as follows:

 Financial Oversight:

  • Review monthly management accounts and provide insights on finances.
  • Work closely with the board to ensure financial sustainability and adherence to budgets.

Board Meeting Participation:

  • Attend quarterly Board meetings, contributing insights and expertise.
  • Review Board papers one week in advance and actively engage in discussions.
  • Participate in votes on key topics and governance matters.

Strategic Contribution:

  • Collaborate with the board on financial strategy and planning.
  • Provide input on funding opportunities and financial implications.

Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure compliance with the organisation’s governing document.
  • Act in the best interest of the charity, managing assets with reasonable care and skill.
  • Contribute to risk management discussions and policy development.

Interaction with Learners:

  • Attend 1-2 live classes or graduation ceremonies per year.
  • Commit to conducting 2-4 mock interviews annually to support learners.

Specialist Topics:

  • Focus on 1-2 specialist topics in-between Board meetings, aligning with key areas of focus for the charity.

Desired Skills and Qualities:

  • Deep appreciation and knowledge of the not-for-profit sector.
  • Understanding and commitment to the mission and values of Generation Ireland.
  • Commitment to the highest levels of corporate governance.
  • Ability to contribute to multiple topics and lead on 1-2 key financial areas.

Charities Regulator’s General Duties of a Charity Trustee

  • Comply with the Charity’s governing document.
  • Ensuring charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit.
  • Acting in the best interest of the charity
  • Act with Reasonable Care and Skill
  • Manage the assets of your charity.

Time Commitment/Board Meetings

Generation Ireland's annual meeting schedule comprises four quarterly board meetings and a maximum of four additional problem-solving meetings per year. These meetings have primarily been conducted via Zoom, with 2024 introducing two in-person sessions at Generation Ireland's offices in Dublin, and two virtually online.

The Treasurer role at Generation Ireland entails a quarterly time commitment ranging from 10 to 15 hours, contingent on specific tasks and quarterly workload variations. Responsibilities include financial matters, governance, and engagement activities such as participating in events, reviewing accounts, and engaging with other board members.
