The Organisation:

Burrenbeo Trust ( is a landscape charity dedicated to connecting all of us to our places and our role in caring for them.

Registered as a charity in 2008, Burrenbeo coordinate and deliver over 25 programmes throughout the year in place-based education, active conservation, community engagement, research and advocacy. While based in the Burren, our work extends nationally.

Our vision is that our rich natural and cultural heritage is valued and cared for by engaged, sustainable local communities who are proud of their heritage and are willing, and able, to look after it.

The Role: 

Burrenbeo Trust are seeking additional Directors. If you have experience in this area and are interested in our work we would like to hear from you.  

General duties of a Burrenbeo (BBT) Director

  • To ensure that BBT complies with its memorandum and articles of association, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
  • To ensure that BBT pursues its charitable objectives as laid down in the memorandum and articles.
  • To ensure that BBT applies its resources exclusively in furtherance of its objectives.
  • To contribute actively to BBT by giving firm strategic direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
  • To safeguard the good name and values of BBT.
  • To ensure the effective administration of BBT.
  • To protect and manage the property of BBT and ensure the proper investment of charity funds.

Personal Specification for Board Members

  • An understanding of and commitment to our mission and values
  • Willingness to devote the necessary time and effort
  • Strategic vision, creative thinking and good independent judgement
  • Willingness to speak their mind
  • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship including commitment to highest levels of corporate governance 
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • No conflicts of interest.
  • Previous experience of Directorship not mandatory.

Board Meetings:

There will be four board meetings as well as an AGM each year. Additional subcommittee meetings may be required. Two of the four meetings are held in the Burrenbeo Office in Kinvara and the remaining two are held online.

Expectations of Board Members:

  • Attendance at the AGM and at least two of the quarterly board meetings.
  • Active participation in the work of the Board including preparing for and contributing to Board discussions.
  • Being available to the Trust Coordinator when required for consultation.
  • Attendance at BBT events where possible.

Board Expertise:

The ability of Board members to draw on their personal expertise and experience is highly valued within BBT.  Board members are recruited for their experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Professional eg. management, accountancy, fundraising, legal, marketing
  • Conservation
  • Education
  • Community eg. membership of local community group.
