The Organisation:

Crohn’s & Colitis Ireland offers vital support services for individuals coping with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) throughout Ireland. These services encompass patient-to-patient support groups, a helpline, informative resources, and advocacy efforts, including organising lobbying initiatives for IBD patients. They facilitate public meetings where patients, families, and friends can engage with healthcare professionals in a relaxed environment, fostering invaluable exchanges. Additionally, the organisation endeavours to raise awareness of IBD through various channels such as social media, their website, newsletters, regional gatherings, and participation in conferences and events across Ireland. As an affiliate of EFCCA and ECCO, Crohn’s & Colitis Ireland also advocates internationally for the needs of those living with IBD.

The Role:

The CCI has a vacancy for the position of Deputy Treasurer, seeking a candidate with a strong background in financial management, budgeting, and reporting. The selected individual will collaborate with the current Honorary Treasurer in managing the charity's financial affairs.

The Deputy Treasurer will be responsible for assisting in handling all financial matters of the charity, including accounting, financial controls, accounting systems, and financial analysis for CCI. Their key responsibilities will encompass managing day-to-day operations related to taxation and revenue, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions, with a focus on protecting and safeguarding CCI's assets.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Management Oversight: Oversee CCI's financial affairs.
  • Board Communication: Keep the board informed on financial events and concerns.
  • Budget Facilitation and Monitoring: Assist the Treasurer with annual budget, and monitor expenses.
  • Internal Controls and Policies: Develop and enforce financial management policies.
  • Financial Reporting and Record Maintenance: Ensure accurate financial reporting and maintain records.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Compliance Management: Maintain filing calendar, and ensure timely compliance.
  • Audit Arrangements: Coordinate financial audits as needed.
  • Strategic Financial Planning: Facilitate financial planning aligned with CCI's mission goals.

Desired skills required:  

  1. Finance: Strong financial acumen, including budgeting and reporting.
  2. Fundraising: Knowledge and experience in fundraising strategies.
  3. Legal: Understanding of relevant nonprofit regulations.
  4. Governance: Familiarity with governance best practices.
  5. Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse financial data for strategic insights.
  6. Risk Management: Ability to identify and mitigate financial risks.
  7. Communication: Effective stakeholder liaison and presentation skills.

Board Meetings/Committee Meetings:

Board meetings occur every six weeks on Thursday evenings. While most meetings take place online, some may be held face-to-face. Online sessions typically last 1.5 hours and occur every six weeks. Occasional in-person meetings may be required at the Carmichael Centre, located at North Brunswick St, Dublin 7. The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled for December 2024.
