Board Secretary

The Museum of Childhood Ireland, Charity number: 20205452 We wish to recruit a Board and Company Secretary to our  voluntary board. The Board is skills based and a diverse group with a variety of different skill sets including education, academia, finance, corporate governance, project management, public affairs and media. The appointed individual will benefit from a collegiate and supportive atmosphere.

Ideally, we’d like you to have some of these skills and experience:

1.   Previous experience as a Board Director or Company Secretary, preferably in the Not-for-Profit Sector.

2.   Good working knowledge of Board governance structures.

3.   Ability to work with, engage and motivate a voluntary Board.

4.   Experience of the charity sector.

5.   Experience of filing returns with regulatory bodies and knowledge of different requirements (i.e. Charities Regulator or Companies Registration Office)

 The main responsibilities are:

  • Compliance:  Supporting the Board in maintaining high standards (e.g., helping to ensure that charity trustees file all relevant statutory returns and information with the Charities Regulator and the Companies Registration Office).
  • Board Secretariat: Ensuring that the Board operates effectively (e.g., notifications of meetings, preparing agendas in consultation with the Chair. Advance circulation of documents to members, checking that a quorum is present).
  • Record Management:  Ensuring the organisation has accurate records and files. Taking meeting minutes (including keeping a record of all issues discussed, decisions taken, and any actions required).

 

The Board meets monthly via Zoom, 12 times per year, for at least one hour. The indicative time commitment is 1-2 hours per week not including the monthly meeting
