Board Director with Public Relations/Communications Experience

Breaking Through CLG are seeking a Director with PR & Communications Experience.

Breaking Through prides itself on good governance and was was the winner of a Good Governance Award in 2022 and shortlisted in 2023.

Breaking Through CLG, a national organisation was established in 2000. We are a registered charity (CHY No: 13601). We are also registered with the Charity Regulatory Authority (Reg No: 20042844). Breaking Through CLG under The Scheme to Support National Organisations is core funded by the Government of Ireland through the Department of Rural and Community Development. We are governed by a voluntary Board of Directors with two full- time and two part- time staff members. The Team | Breaking Through. Please note that in September 2023 we will have two new additions to the board. One director with Legal experience and the other with HR experience.

The main focus of Breaking Through’s work is to develop and coordinate the Irish Aftercare Network (IAN). The Network provides advice and support to professionals working with young people leaving care in Ireland. There are over 500 individual members of the Irish Aftercare Network representing over 80 organisations covering every county in Ireland.

Aftercare is a term used to describe the planning and support put in place to meet the needs of a young person who is leaving statutory care at age 18. Currently, there are approximately 6000 young people in care in Ireland who will be leaving care in the coming years.

Breaking Through also co-ordinate and manage Suicide Intervention & Prevention Skills Training on behalf of the HSE Mental Health Services as part of Ireland’s National Suicide Prevention Strategy, Connecting for Life. Face- to -face suicide prevention training workshops include training such as safeTALK (Suicide Alertness for Everyone) and ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).  This work is funded by annual Grant Aid Agreements.

Breaking Through CLG is recruiting a Director  to join our volunteer Board. We seek a capable individual with experience in the areas of PR & Communications to compliment the current board. We have a passion for the work the organisation does and the ideal candidate would share this passion.

While the head office is in Leixlip, Co Kildare it may be useful to note that Board meetings take place in Dublin city centre. In 2024 there will be a requirement to attend five meetings,  two online , two in person as well as an in person AGM. 2025 will likely require the same commitment for meetings.
