Dublin City Volunteer Centre, the largest of the network of 29 volunteer centres in Ireland, is the one-stop shop for volunteering, supporting organisations and individuals in the Dublin City Council area to make Dublin a great place to volunteer and support their communities.
More than 3,000 people use the organisation’s engagement service each year to find volunteer opportunities to suit their skills and interests. A free volunteer referral service is provided to any individual or group looking to volunteer in Dublin City.
Dublin City Volunteer Centre offers expert advice to voluntary and community organisations to implement best practice in volunteer management, including recruiting volunteers, developing policies and guidelines, Garda vetting, volunteer management training and much more.

The Role:
Dublin City Volunteer Centre is seeking a new Trustee with considerable HR experience to join the board and serve on the HR Subgroup.
Dublin City Volunteer Centre has a staff team of 14. The team is diverse and brings a range of experience and expertise to the work of supporting volunteerism in Dublin. In recent years the HR Subgroup has led the development of wellbeing initiatives including a staff wellbeing plan contributing to notable progress towards our objective of making Dublin City Volunteer Centre a great place to work and achieve. The incoming trustee will continue to support this development plan and further enhance staff engagement and effectiveness.

General duties of a charity trustee:
· Comply with the charity’s governing document
· Ensure the charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit
· Act in the best interest of the charity
· Act with reasonable care and skill
· Manage the assets of the charity
Input to the strategic direction, contributing with insight and oversight.
Skills and Experience Required:
· Human Resources skills gained at a senior level.
· Ability to evaluate policies and give well-considered advice to the board
· Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
· The ability to work as part of a collective body in the interest of the organisation and to engage with fellow board members.
· The successful candidate must be able to dedicate sufficient time for board meetings and a subcommittee.
· An understanding of, and alignment with, our organisational goals.
Although not essential, we are particularly keen to hear from candidates with experience of one of the following:
1. Voice of the User: experience of wishing to volunteer but may have faced barriers to getting involved in meaningful volunteering.
2. Volunteer Management: experience of volunteer management either by working in a charity to oversee volunteer management, or as a volunteer themselves.
Previous experience in a board role is not required.
Board Meetings:
There are six to eight board meetings a year, typically lasting for two hours. Meetings alternate between online and in person, and rotate from 12 noon to 2.00pm, and 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm.
Board Committee:
Board Committees also meet six to eight times a year. The meetings take place online and typically last for an hour.
The schedule for 2027 will be agreed with the board.
