Role description RCDT Treasurer August 2025
The Rialto Community Drug Team is an addiction support service based in a community centre in Rialto Dublin with 9 employees full and part-time. We have a great functioning management committee which aims to meet once per month. Our current treasurer is stepping down at the end of August 2025 and this position is now open to new applicants. We would ask that the person comes with financial management experience. There is no need to have an understanding of the community/voluntary sector however the person will need to be open to understand and learn about the workings and nuances of this exciting sector and experience of this sector is a distinct advantage. Although this role is open to all who may have an interest in this project it may suit someone who is retired and has the time to oversee the monthly reports, annual audit overview and occasional issues that may arise.
The treasurer’s role is to liaise with the Manager and Administrator to oversee in the preparation of monthly accounts for the Management Sub Committee and be there in a mentoring role.
They will support the management sub-committee in understanding the finances and issues arising in the financial and budgeting system.
The final responsibility for financial management lies with the Rialto Development Association board of directors (umbrella organisation). Audited accounts are carried out by external auditors at the beginning of every year which form part of the overall consolidated accounts for the organisation.
The Chairperson and other members of the management committee will assist the treasurer in the history and nuances of the organisation. Training will be offered through the Carmichael Centre or others to support the treasure in their new role in the community sector if requested.
Duties are as follows:
1. To review and advise on financial procedures where necessary with the support of the manager and administrator.
2. To liaise with the Chairperson and manager regarding all financial matters,
3. To ensure that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place,
4. To ensure compliance with relevant legislation,
5. To ensure any recommendations of the auditors are implemented.
6. To participate in general management role of the project as a voluntary director on the board
7. Attend 10 meetings annually (ideally) lasting 2 hours each. This role will likely entail additional hours
8. To be open and willing to learn and understand the workings of the voluntary and community sector’s role as part of the National Drugs Strategy.
The treasurer ideally should be able to demonstrate a knowledge, experience and confidence in reviewing monthly accounts and reviewing projections. We report using both excel and QuickBooks. RCDT is mostly grant funded through the HSE and the Canals Community Local Drugs and Alcohol Task Force.
Rialto Community Drug Team is part of Rialto Development Association CLG.
