Treasurer
We are looking for someone to help a small educational charity with a strong national standing to continue its publishing work to encourage critical thinking about photographic culture. You will gain insight into the workings of a small independent publisher with 35 years track record.
Through quarterly reports to the Board on our financial situation yyou will gain first hand insight into the workings of a small independent publisher and join a friendly and supportive Board who meet via zoom. Details of our current board are at https://www.source.ie/main/board.php
Our current Hon Treasurer will do a hand over with the new Hon Treasurer. We would encourage you to sit in on one board meeting as an observer before taking on the role.
What we need the trustee to do.
To help the organisation with financial planning by providing oversight of cash flow and forecast and future years budgets. We generate 40% of our own income from sales of the magazine, advertising and services with the rest from 3 core funders. With tightening budgets everywhere we need to ensure we plan appropriately and where possible increase self generated income.
The Treasurer meets with one of the editors in advance of quarterly Board meetings to review the organisations current year cashflow and forecast and future year budgets this usually this takes around one hour. Our Accountants update the cashflow monthly. They also process our payroll and prepare and independently examining our annual accounts.
The Treasurer has access to this as an excel document on a shared drive. We work with Sterling and Euro.
Then they prepare a Board Report this takes on average 4 hours to prepare.
This is circulated to the Board in advance of the board meeting. We can provide a previous example as a format.
At the meeting, which lasts around two hours in total, they go through the report and answer any questions the Board might have. The delivery of the report normally takes around 10-15 minutes. The rest of the meeting is made up of staff reports on recent and upcoming activities with input from the Board. Meetings are recorded and full minutes are provided.
They also attend the rest of the meeting which covers staff updates on audience development and sales, funding updates, other practical and strategic matters and what the editors have an will be working on in terms of future issues of the quarterly magazine which is our core output.
You will work with the accountants annually to review the financial accounts each year providing mark ups and signing the final accounts.

The treasurer plays a key role in supporting the charity with good financial planning, and advising the board on the financial implications of decisions to support its long-term sustainability.
What qualities and experience should your trustee have?
We are looking for someone with accountancy and finance skills.
You will be confident about presenting information to a small group of other Board members using zoom and screen sharing.
It will be useful if you are able to clearly present financial information to Board members who do not come from a financial background.
You won’t mind answering questions from Board members who don't have a financial background.
If you have an interest or would like to know more about the arts, photography, education or publishing that could make the role more fulfilling.
You should be a practical and strategic thinker who can work with an organisation that has a small team of four dedicated and experienced staff working with limited financial resources.
