Safeguarding Committee Member

We are seeking an experienced professional to join our Safeguarding Subcommittee in an advisory capacity.

This role is suited to someone with strong safeguarding expertise who wants to contribute at a governance level, without the commitment of a full Board position.

As a member of the Safeguarding Subcommittee, you will support the Board by providing independent oversight, assurance, and constructive challenge in relation to safeguarding practice and governance. The subcommittee is chaired by a Board member and works closely with the CEO and senior leadership team.

Key Areas of Contribution

  • Supporting Board oversight of safeguarding governance and assurance

  • Reviewing safeguarding policies, reports, and escalation processes

  • Advising on organisational safeguarding risks and controls

  • Providing independent perspective on complex or sensitive safeguarding issues

  • Ensuring safeguarding remains central to organisational decision-making

This is an advisory role and does not involve operational safeguarding casework.

Person Specification

We are seeking individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Safeguarding, child protection, social care, health, or education

  • Safeguarding governance or oversight in regulated environments

  • Risk assessment, escalation, and assurance frameworks

  • Familiarity with Irish safeguarding standards and regulatory contexts (desirable)

You will bring:

  • Sound professional judgement and discretion

  • The confidence to provide challenge in a constructive, proportionate way

  • A strong safeguarding lens balanced with organisational awareness

  • A genuine commitment to protecting children and vulnerable people

Time Commitment

  • One online meeting every 4–6 weeks

  • Preparation and review of papers in advance of meetings

  • Occasional ad-hoc input as required
