The Organisation:

NICHE Health Project (Cork) CLG is a longstanding community health and development organisation, established since 1998. NICHE works with local people and services to improve health, wellbeing, and quality of life in Knocknaheeny, Hollyhill, and surrounding areas of Cork city.

NICHE adopts a holistic, community development approach to health, delivering a wide range of programmes including social prescribing, community gardening, movement and therapeutic activities, and community-based initiatives that promote connection, confidence, and wellbeing.

The organisation works collaboratively with individuals, groups, and statutory services to address the social determinants of health and build stronger, healthier communities.

The Role:

NICHE Health Project (Cork) CLG are currently seeking to recruit 2 voluntary board members to play a meaningful role in supporting the organisation’s mission and shaping its future direction.

This is an exciting time to join NICHE as we shape our 2026–2030 strategy and define our future direction. Grounded in community needs, our work will continue to champion advocacy on the social and commercial determinants of health, whilst expanding our role in climate action, and creative expression.

Desired Skills and Experience:

The Board welcomes candidates with a range of experience and skills, and are particularly interested in individuals with relevant experience in:

  • Governance and compliance
  • Finance / accounting
  • Human resources / organisational development
  • Fundraising, communications, or public relations
  • Community development, health, or social inclusion

     

Desired Qualities:

  • Affinity with the communities we serve, Knocknaheeny and Hollyhill
  • A strong commitment to community development and improving health outcomes
  • A deep appreciation and knowledge of the Not-For-Profit sector
  • An understanding of and commitment to NICHE’s mission and values
  • Strategic thinking and sound judgement
  • Commitment to highest levels of corporate governance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing input to the strategic direction of the organisation and contributing with insight, oversight, and experience at board meetings and any additional commitments
  • Policy development and implementation as required
  • Contributing insight, oversight, and experience at board meetings
  • Ensuring effective governance, compliance, and accountability
  • Acting as an ambassador for NICHE and supporting its work in the community

 

Board Meetings:

The board meets on a 6-weekly basis at NICHE Health Project office on Harbourview Road Knocknaheeny, Cork.
