Join Our Board: Shape the Future of Outdoor Ethics with Leave No Trace Ireland

Leave No Trace Ireland is seeking passionate and experienced individuals to join our voluntary Board of Directors. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your expertise to a vital mission at a pivotal time in our organisation's development. We are broadening our impact across the island of Ireland and need dedicated leaders to help us achieve our strategic vision.

About Leave No Trace Ireland: As a member-driven organisation, Leave No Trace Ireland is dedicated to inspiring responsible use of the outdoors through education, research, and partnerships throughout the island of Ireland. We are recognised as the most widely accepted outdoor ethics programme in Ireland, teaching people of all ages how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly.

We envision an Ireland where everyone enjoys our shared outdoor spaces and cherishes and safeguards them for future generations.

The Role of a Board Member: Our Board currently comprises nine Directors. As a Board Member, you will play a crucial role in:

  • Creating and rolling out a clear, shared vision and strategy for Leave No Trace Ireland.
  • Ensuring the organisation operates legally, stays true to its purpose, and complies with all relevant policy and legal requirements.
  • Providing leadership and assisting the CEO in formulating policies and plans to achieve organisational objectives.
  • Approving major contracts, ensuring accountability, and effectively managing limited resources, particularly finances.
  • Upholding an ethos of equality in all organisational activities.
  • Overseeing the assessment and management of risks to the organisation.

This is a voluntary role for a three-year term. Board Members do not receive payments from the organisation, other than reimbursement for Board-related expenses. You will be expected to attend five Board meetings and one Annual General Meeting per annum, with most meetings held in Dublin.

What We're Looking For: We are seeking exceptional individuals with a proven track record of at least five years' experience at Board level in business, not-for-profit, or social enterprise organisations. You should be passionately interested in the questions Leave No Trace raises and the solutions we offer, possessing ethical fibre, empathy, trustworthiness, vision, and high standards.

We are particularly interested in candidates who can bring expertise in any of the following areas:

  • Senior Management / Leadership: With emphasis on business development, Human Resources (HR), finance, and general organisational management.

  • Outdoor Environmental Practice: Especially those with a business or tourism perspective.
  • Technology / Cybersecurity: Experience in digital systems, IT governance, or cybersecurity.
  • Other valuable skillsets include: Rural Development, Landownership, and Fundraising.

Board Members should feel comfortable with fundraising for Leave No Trace Ireland and be willing to explore various avenues to secure funding opportunities. Furthermore, ideal candidates will be good team players and communicators, understand Company Law and relevant legislation, and be willing to champion the organisation, invite engagement, provide expertise, and be passionate advocates for Leave No Trace Ireland.
