Theatre for Change Galway CLG (TforCG) is a community-based theatre company in Galway. The company uses the practices of Applied Drama, and works with people in a range of community and educational settings. The practices of Applied Drama provide opportunities for cultural education, creative engagement and intercultural dialogue regarding issues related to social disadvantage and injustice. Through applied drama techniques, such as those of Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed participants develop capacity-building skills and skills in self-advocacy which can catalyse both personal and societal change.

General Trustee duties of a Charity Trustee

  • Comply with the company’s Constitution
  • Act in the best interest of the company
  • Act with reasonable care and skill
  • Manage the assets of the company in a prudent manner
  • Provide input to the strategic direction of the company
  • Contribute to a fundraising and marketing strategy that will allow the company fulfil its mission and aims
  • Contribute to policy formation and implementation
  • Be an authorised signatory of the company as required.

The Role:

Theatre for Change Galway CLG are seeking an enthusiastic trustee for their board with Governance experience in company regulations and risk mitigation. If you want to play a key role in advising and advancing the governance of TforCG and the development on the organisations policies and procedures, we are keen to hear from you.

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Providing input into the strategic direction of TforCG and contributing with governance expertise and oversight for our operations.
  • Assist with policy formation and implementation to maintain high levels of compliance with company regulation.
  • Provide advice and direction on best practise in the area of general governance for the best interests of both the organisation and our clients.

Essential Skills/Qualities required for these roles:

  • A deep appreciation of the Not-For-Profit and Social Enterprise sector and its workings
  • At least 3 years’ experience operating at a senior level
  • An understanding of and commitment to our mission and values
  • Commitment to highest levels of company governance
  • Previous Board of Management desirable but not essential

Board Meetings

There are quarterly meetings of the Board. Meeting are held in the ILAS, Galway University in person and where necessary online,
