The Organisation:

Galway Contact is a registered charity supporting older people in Galway since 1981. It’s main aim is to alleviate loneliness and social isolation through it’s befriending service, social clubs and outings, transport to clubs and outings. It also assists older people to get personal alarms through the Seniors Alert Scheme enabling them to be safe and secure in their own homes.

The Role:

Galway Contact are seeking to recruit a trustee preferably with a background in management and an interest in older people’s services. It would be preferable if the trustee would be open and willing to taking on the role of Chairperson or Trustee in the future. Trustees who would also be interested in joining the Management sub-committee would be ideal.

General Trustee duties of a Charity Trustee:

 * Comply with the Charity’s governing document

 * Ensuring charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit

 * Acting in the best interest of the charity

 * Act with Reasonable Care and Skill

 * Manage the assets of your charity

Responsibilities will include the following:

* Providing input to the strategic direction of Galway Contact

* Forming policy and implementing same as required

* Actively contributing to discussions and decision making processes

 Preferred Skills/Qualities for these roles:

 • An appreciation and knowledge of the Not-For-Profit sector

 • An understanding of and commitment to our mission and values

 • Commitment to highest levels of corporate governance 

Board Meetings:

There will be 2-3 board meetings per year for Trustees and 10 sub-committee meetings per year for Trustees who wish to also join our management committee. Meetings are held in Barna Church parish office, Barna Church, Barna, Co. Galway (nearest eircode H91 C7PK) so living locally would be an advantage.
