St John Ambulance Ireland (SJAI) are seeking new Trustees to join it's Board to assist in promoting it's ideals that everyone should have immediate access to first aid no matter where they are or what they are doing at the onset of illness or injury. With humble beginnings in Guinness’s Brewery in 1903, the organisation has been at the forefront of acute care and training throughout Ireland for over 100 years.
SJAI welcome any candidates who feel they can contribute to its work. We are particularly seeking candidates with a background in Chair and/or Compliance/Governance experience, individuals with recent and relevant experience in Not for Profit organisations and/or knowledge of accounting.
General Trustee duties of a Charity Trustee
- Comply with the charity’s governing document
- Ensure that the charity is carrying out its charitable purposes for the public benefit
- Act in the best interests of the charity
- Act with reasonable care and skill
- Manage the assets of the charity
Responsibilities will include the following
- Providing input to the strategic direction of the Not-for-Profit and contributing with insight, oversight and experience of strategy formulation in the sector.
- Policy formation and implementation as required
Essential Skills/Qualities required
- An appreciation and knowledge of the Not-for-Profit sector
- An understanding of how volunteers think and operate
- An understanding of and commitment to our mission and values
- Commitment to highest levels of corporate governance
Board Meetings
There are normally six meetings per year or as required. Meetings are held in our NHQ, Leeson Street and attendance can be by zoom if unable to attend in person.
