Board Member with finance experience

Louth Volunteer Centre plays a vital role in strengthening communities across County Louth by connecting people who want to volunteer with organisations that need their skills, time and passion. In 2024 alone, the Centre supported thousands of volunteer hours that made a real difference to community groups, schools, charities and local initiatives across the county.

We are now seeking a Board Member with finance experience who is motivated to use their skills for social good and who will progress into the role of Vice-Treasurer, and in time, Treasurer. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute at a strategic level to an organisation that supports over 400 community and voluntary organisations and helps generate more than €1.2 million worth of volunteer impact each year.

As Vice-Treasurer, you will play a key role in safeguarding the financial health of Louth Volunteer Centre, ensuring that the organisation can continue to grow, innovate and support volunteering across the county for years to come.

About the Role

The Treasurer (and Vice-Treasurer in progression) supports strong financial governance by ensuring that accurate books of account are maintained by the Manager and that the Board of Directors has a clear understanding of the organisation’s financial position. Officers are elected at the AGM in May and serve a three-year term, or until a successor is elected and qualified.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking someone who brings:

  • Sound financial knowledge and an interest in understanding the financial operations of a community-based nonprofit

  • A genuine commitment to Louth Volunteer Centre’s mission and the time needed to carry out the Vice-Treasurer role effectively

  • An understanding of financial accounting within the nonprofit or voluntary sector

Knowledge of Xero would be an advantage.

What You’ll Contribute As a Volunteer Board Member

As Vice-Treasurer, you will:

  • Serve on the Risk and Financial Governance Committee, helping to ensure strong oversight and accountability

  • Support the Board, alongside the Finance Committee, in meeting its financial governance responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Manager and Finance Committee to ensure timely, clear and meaningful financial reports are provided to the Board

  • Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and support its presentation to the Board for approval

  • Help develop and strengthen fiscal policies that protect the organisation’s financial integrity and long-term sustainability

  • Contribute to long-term financial planning and strategy, ensuring the Centre can continue to respond to community needs

  • Stay informed about legal, regulatory and sector developments relevant to nonprofit financial governance

Why Volunteer With Us?

By joining the Board of Louth Volunteer Centre, you won’t just be overseeing figures – you’ll be enabling community action, supporting volunteers, and helping local organisations thrive. Your expertise will directly support an organisation that acts as a backbone for volunteering in County Louth and ensures that goodwill is turned into meaningful, well-supported action.

If you’re looking to use your financial skills to create lasting community impact, this is an opportunity to make a real difference.
