Volunteer Treasurer
About Sporting Pride
Sporting Pride is a volunteer-led organisation working to make sport in Ireland more inclusive and welcoming for LGBTQ+ people.
We work with sports clubs, National Governing Bodies, Local Sports Partnerships, community organisations and other partners across Ireland through education, training, events, advocacy and community initiatives.
As our work continues to grow, we are looking for a Volunteer Treasurer to join our committee and help us manage Sporting Pride’s finances effectively and responsibly.
About the Role
The Treasurer plays an important role in ensuring the committee has a clear and up-to-date picture of Sporting Pride’s financial position and that the organisation’s finances are well managed.
We are a small, volunteer-led organisation, so the volume of financial transactions is relatively modest. The Treasurer will work alongside the wider committee and will have access to professional support, including our auditor, when required.
The role would suit someone with experience in finance, accounting, bookkeeping or financial administration who would like to use those skills to support LGBTQ+ inclusion in Irish sport.
You do not need to be a qualified accountant or have previous experience as a Treasurer. A full handover and ongoing support will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
The Treasurer will:
- Maintain day-to-day bookkeeping and accurate records of income and expenditure.
- Prepare monthly accounts and provide a straightforward financial update to the committee.
- Manage and monitor Sporting Pride’s bank account and overall cash position.
- Set up and manage payments in line with agreed approval processes.
- Prepare and issue invoices where required.
- Work with the committee to prepare the annual budget and monitor performance against it.
- Support the preparation of annual accounts and year-end requirements and act as the main committee contact with our auditor and other professional advisers.
- Support grant and fundraising applications with budgets and other financial information.
- Monitor grant income and expenditure and help ensure funding is managed and reported in line with funder requirements.
- Support good financial governance and help the committee make informed financial decisions.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re primarily looking for someone who has experience or a good working knowledge of finance, accounting, bookkeeping or financial administration and is comfortable working with budgets and financial records.
You should be organised, reliable and comfortable handling confidential financial information, with good attention to detail and an ability to communicate financial information clearly to other committee members.
An interest in supporting LGBTQ+ inclusion in Irish sport is important.
Previous charity, not-for-profit, grant management or committee experience would be useful, but isn’t essential.
Support & Handover
The new Treasurer will receive a full handover from our outgoing Treasurer, covering Sporting Pride’s existing financial systems, accounts, banking arrangements, annual budget, grants and reporting requirements.
There will also be a transition period while access to bank accounts and other systems is arranged, with the outgoing Treasurer available for support and guidance.
You’ll have the support of the wider Sporting Pride committee and access to our professional advisers, including our auditor, where specialist advice is required.
Why Get Involved?
This is an opportunity to use your financial skills to make a meaningful contribution to a volunteer-led organisation working to improve LGBTQ+ inclusion in Irish sport.
You’ll become part of the Sporting Pride committee and have an opportunity to help shape the organisation as it continues to develop, while gaining experience across financial management, governance, grants and funding within the not-for-profit sector.
