Praxis Care is the largest registered Social Care Charity in Northern Ireland, founded in 1984 initially to provide a befriending service to people with mental ill health experiencing isolation. Praxis has since expanded its services in terms of scope and geography across the UK, Republic of Ireland and Isle of Man, and has gained a formidable reputation both as an innovator in the sector and for its authentic commitment to improving the lives of those individuals it supports.

The organisation aims to be known as a world class charity which effectively empowers the most marginalised individuals with complex needs due to learning disability, autism, mental ill health or dementia, to fully enjoy everyday community living. Praxis ensures all activities are based on its core values of integrity, care, respect, innovation and ambition.

Due to some movement in the existing Praxis Board, the organisation is on the market to appoint new Board members in the following disciplines: Care, Research & Innovation, Property and IT. Praxis is looking for someone who is willing to dedicate time and energy to the organisation and to share its passion to assist adults and children with mental ill health and intellectual disabilities.

Role overview of a Board member:

All Board members share responsibility for ensuring the good governance of the organisation; the overall governance and strategic direction and sustainability of Praxis Care; the formulation of its Mission, Vision and Values, the establishment of the organisation’s strategic objectives in accordance with the Memorandum and Articles of Association and other legal and regulatory guidelines. 

In addition, the successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • A career track record of senior leadership roles, having contributed directly to the overall business strategy and organisational success.
  • An understanding and experience of managing risk, governance and compliance.
  • Significant senior executive experience within the specific discipline relevant to the trustee role the candidate is applying for with a strong understanding and practical application of corporate governance.
