Trustee with youth sector experience

Streetdoctors Ireland is seeking a Trustee with experience in youth sector charity work to join our team of young professionals for a period of 6 months with a view to extend to 12 months pending successful participation of the Trustee.

Streetdoctors Ireland is a small grass-roots charity made up of medical students and resident doctors who provide emergency first-aid training to young people at risk of harm from violent crime and/or drug use.

Streetdoctors Ireland has a committee made up of medical students from two Irish medical schools. The committee manages the day-to-day operational duties of the charity while the board of trustees manages governance & policy, financial matters, insurance coverage etc. The board is made up of many past committee members and works closely with the committee to support them in the delivery of of services to achieve our charitable objectives. This is accomplished through the delivery of teaching sessions to small groups of young people in teaching centres across Dublin such as Oberstown Child Detention Campus, Youthreach centres, and other established youth services.

Trustee committments;

SDI board meetings are approximately once per month. These meetings are online via Zoom or google meets so the Trustee role is fully remote. The time commitment of Trustee / ordinary board member is 2-3 hours per month.

Essential candidate attributes

- enthusiasm for working to help disadvantaged young people across Dublin

- interest in charity governance and policy development

- past experience in charity work ideally in the youth sector

- agreeable to undergo Garda Vetting with no significant relevant criminal record

- can devote 2-3 hours per month to the role of Trustee

- strong teamwork and communication skills

Desirable candidate attributes

- experience as secretary or chairperson at charity board level

- experience with sourcing funding/managing grant money

- leadership skills

- interest in safeguarding

- interest in volunteer training & development.

Streetdoctors Ireland is an evolving charity with ambitions to expand our charitable work to recruit more volunteers to teach more first-aid sessions. Joining the board as a Trustee is a valuable opportunity to work with young people in the organisation (committee and volunteers) and for young people outside of the organisation (students we teach in sessions).
