Trustee with medical or nursing experience
The Sick and Indigent Roomkeepers Society (SIRKS) is seeking to recruit a new Board member with medical or nursing experience, to take part in running the charity and to advise the Board in relation to applications from people with significant health issues.
SIRKS, founded in 1790, is Dublin’s oldest charity. Our remit extends across Dublin city and county. Our core mission is to help people experiencing temporary hardship due to illness, unemployment or other unforeseen circumstances and who need assistance to get their lives back on track. We offer support by responding to applications submitted by qualified social workers attached to charities and hospitals.
This is a voluntary, non-executive role. The Board meets in person at our office in Dublin city centre once a month (except in August); sub-committees meet as required. Trustees take turns to decide applications up to €1,500 (larger applications are referred to the Board). The average time commitment is thus about 4 hours per month. The Board term is three years, which can be renewed.
The ideal candidate would:
• Be committed to supporting the work of SIRKS and its values (see www.sirkscharity.org)
• Have experience in medicine or nursing
• Ideally have prior experience as a Board member or involvement with a not-for-profit or charitable body.
