The Role 

Kildare County Childcare Committee is seeking a board member with a Legal experience.   

Responsibilities include the following: 

  • Input to the strategic direction, contributing with insight, oversight, and experience. 

  • Act as legal counsel, assisting on legal aspects of the organisation pertaining to best practice. 

  • Assist with the creation of strategic plans which will comply with current legislation and practice. 

  • Support the board in ensuring the highest levels of governance and compliance. 

  • Membership of a board committee. 

 

Skills and experience required: 

  • Qualified solicitor or barrister.   

  • Extensive knowledge of company law and governance in Ireland.  

  • Board experience is desirable, at executive, advisory or non-executive levels. 

Charities Regulator’s General Duties of a Charity Trustee 

  • Comply with the charity’s governing document. 

  • Ensure the charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit. 

  • Act in the best interest of the charity 

  • Act with reasonable care and skill 

  • Manage the assets of your charity. 

 

Board Meetings: 

There are six board meetings a year.  Meetings are mostly online with the exception of the December board meeting and the AGM.  Meetings last one hour and are held at lunchtime.  

 

Subcommittees: 

There are three subcommittees: Finance & Audit, Renumeration, and Health & Safety. Board members are expected to join at least one subcommittee. Meetings are held online and usually last for an hour.
