Trustee with HR Experience
THE ROLE: Reporting to the Board, this newly created position will advise on all aspects of the HR pertaining to the charity. We are an employer, with various sites across which both employees, volunteers, trustees and committee members operate. Our HR needs are therefore diverse and can be complex.
The trustee will be able to advise the board on all aspects of the charity’s HR obligations, with a clear mandate to minimise all risks. The trustee will work closely with the CEO and company secretary.
The trustee will need to ensure that we comply with all employment legislation, with the aim of making Galway SPCA a leader in the charity sector as an informed and best practice employer.
We expect that anyone taking on this role is prepared to act as an informal educator to those involved in the charity and assume the role of mediator within the charity, if and when necessary.
THE PERSON:
● Have great communication and listening skills
● Be approachable and empathic
● Must be discreet and diplomatic
● Have a strong HR background
● Must be prepared to act in an advisory capacity
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
● HR degree or equivalent
● Excellent verbal skills
● A skilled diplomat
● Experience with HR in the voluntary / charity sector, would be a bonus
THE DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
● To advise on all HR matters pertaining to the activities of the charity
● To offer advice on compliance to all HR legislation
● To review all existing documents, etc and carry out a gap analysis, if appropriate ● Review data compliance, specifically with regard to GDPR and offer advice if necessary
● Offer advice and solutions, if necessary, to any HR issues arising from our day to day activities
● Ensure that the board is aware of its legal obligations under current legislation and offer advice around this as and when necessary
● Act as mediator in the event of any internal issues or disputes
● Help develop the charity in terms of HR so that it becomes the “go to” benchmark for other charities
