Trustee with Financial Experience in the Charity Sector

The ISCP Benevolent Fund is a charitable trust dedicated to aid, assist and relieve members or former members of the Society, their wives, husbands and families and immediate dependents who are suffering hardship through illness, want or deprivation or are in any way difficult circumstances; to aid assist and relieve widows, widowers, families and immediate dependents of members who are suffering in similar ways.

The Role: 
The ISCP Benevolent Fund Trustees are seeking an individual with proven knowledge in financial management or accountancy to be a Trustee.

Responsibilities will include the following:  
The Trustee with Finance Experience plays a crucial role on the Board of Trustees, providing expertise, guidance, and support in financial oversight and compliance, and risk management. This role ensures that the Benevolent Fund adheres to regulatory requirements, upholds the highest standards of governance, and mitigates risks effectively.
The primary role of the Trustees is to adjudicate on applications for assistance.

Key Responsibilities:
•    Provide strategic guidance and assistance on financial matters to ensure the effective functioning of the Benevolent Fund Trustees.
•    Assist in the review and updating of financial policies, procedures, and practices to align with best practices and legal and regulatory requirements.
•    Assist in monitoring and ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and reporting requirements applicable to non-profit organisations in Ireland.
•    Assist the Trustees on regulatory changes, potential risks, and compliance strategies to maintain the Fund’s integrity and reputation.
•    Actively participate in Trustee meetings, providing insights and expertise on financial and regulatory matters, ensuring that resources are properly managed.
•    Engage with the other Trustees and stakeholders to foster a culture of transparency. accountability, and ethical conduct. 

Qualifications and Experience:
•    The candidate must be a qualified Accountant, ACA or CIMA qualified, ideally with at least 5 years senior management experience 
•    Ideally 20 to 30 years’ experience in financial or legal roles, preferably in the charity/ non-profit sector or related industry.
•    Knowledge of Irish laws, regulations, and governance frameworks applicable to non-profit organisations.
•    Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
•    Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
•    Commitment to the aims and values of the ISCP Benevolent Fund.

Term of Office:
The term for all Trustees is seven years from the date of approval.

Time Commitment:
Approximately 6 meetings per annum, 5 of which are held online and 1 held in-person. Meetings are usually two hours long and held from 10am to 12pm.
