Trustee with financial and governance experience

Since 1985, Pavee Point has established a track record in innovative and ground-breaking work using a collective community development approach to addressing Traveller & Roma issues and promoting Traveller & Roma human rights.

We are building a dynamic and committed board to help grow our organisation.

We are seeking a new board member to join our board who has recent and relevant experience and knowledge in Finance and Governance

Prior board experience is very welcome but not essential. We value diverse voices and experiences that reflect the communities we serve. provided candidates can demonstrate a strong understanding of governance in the Irish non-profit sector. Familiarity with public funding accounting and compliance is important, as is the ability to bring strategic financial insight to support the organisation’s sustainability. Excellent communication skills are essential, with the ability to explain financial concepts clearly and confidently to board members without a finance background.

Our Mission

Pavee Point’s mission is to contribute to improvement in the quality of life, living circumstances, status and participation of Travellers & Roma through working innovatively for social justice, greater solidarity, development, equality and human rights.

Required Skills:

  • An understanding of leadership as a director with insight into governance and strategy.

     

  • An operational understanding of the Not-For-Profit sector.
     
  • A strong commitment to assisting in the growth of the organisation and a focus on contributing to building strong governance controls.
     
  • Financial knowledge of accounting, funding strategies and long-term asset management.
     
  • Professional experience in a finance role, e.g., as an accountant, auditor, or Finance Manager/Director in the private, non-profit, or public sector.
     
  • Knowledge and experience of the Charity SORP (Statement of Recommended Practice) would be highly regarded.
     
  • Strong, insightful business skills and an ability to understand the interplay between complex corporate governance issues, service delivery and risk.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide critically important input to the strategic growth of Pavee Point and contribute meaningfully to grow our organisation into one which is innovative, financially secure, ethically grounded and demonstrates robust  corporate governance.
  • Review budgets, financial statements, and funding applications to ensure sustainability.
  • Provide strategic direction, contribute to policy formation, and ensure compliance with governance requirements. In particular with compliance with the Charity Regulator's Governance Code.
  • Be prepared to work for a commitment of 3 years and contribute to sub -committees as required. 
  • Work to ensure Pavee Point Traveller and Roma Centre complies with relevant legal requirements.
  • Work to ensure the organisation is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit.
  • Work to assist the developing and monitoring of effective risk management strategies. 
  • Work to assist in developing and monitoring internal systems that are transparent and accountable to stakeholders and funders. 
  • Provide general expertise and advice on all matters relating to corporate governance. 
  • Comply with the charity’s internal governing documents.
  • Ensure that the charity is complying with its charitable purpose.

Board Meeting Commitment
The time commitment is one 1.5 -hour board meeting every six weeks with attendance remotely or in person in Pavee Point. The appointees would join the main board and also participate on relevant sub-committees according to preference and skillset. There is a minimum of 5 meetings per year.
