About Diabetes Ireland

Diabetes Ireland is a national charity dedicated to helping people with diabetes. We achieve this by providing Support, Education, and Motivation to our community. Diabetes Ireland also raises public awareness of diabetes and its symptoms and supports, and funds research related to the causes, prevention, and cure of diabetes.

A vacancy has arisen for a Treasurer to join our Board of Directors and help strengthen our financial governance and long-term sustainability.

Diabetes Ireland is going into a new era of service delivery this year with the introduction of innovative new programmes all designed to educate and support those living with diabetes in our community making this an exciting and timely opportunity to join us and help shape the next phase of our development.

The Role

This is a voluntary, non-executive Board role.

The Treasurer plays a key role in ensuring Diabetes Ireland’s finances are well managed, transparent and aligned with best practice for community and charity organisations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the finances of the Federation. 
  • Present a financial report to the Board of Directors and Management     Committee at each meeting. 
  • Oversee preparation of the annual accounts and ensure that they are sent to the Auditor for completion within the set timescales with all appropriate documentation. 
  • Ensure that the Board of Directors and other committee(s) has the necessary information to understand the Federation's financial needs and make decisions on how the resources can best be used to fulfil the aims of the Federation. 
  • Ensure that the Federation has a good system of accounting and accounting procedures for ensuring same. 
  • Keep the committee informed of performance against agreed annual budget(s) and develop annual budget(s) as appropriate. 

 Board & Organisational Support

  • Contribute as a full Board member to strategy, planning and governance
  • Support compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements

Training in charity governance and the responsibilities of a Board member will be provided. The Board is committed to keeping the Treasurer role proportionate, realistic and well-supported.
