Treasurer
Role Purpose:
The Treasurer plays a critical role in ensuring the financial health and transparency of Green Skibbereen. You will oversee our financial operations, maintain accurate records, and provide strategic guidance to support our environmental mission. This role is ideal for someone with financial acumen, a passion for sustainability, and a commitment to good governance.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management
- Oversee the organisation’s financial health, including budgeting, cash flow management, and financial planning.
- Ensure compliance with Irish company law and tax obligations (e.g., VAT, Corporation Tax).
- Work with the board to develop and monitor the annual budget, ensuring alignment with our strategic goals.
- Present monthly/quarterly financial reports to the board, highlighting key metrics, variances, and risks.
- Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for all financial transactions.
Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare and present annual accounts in accordance with FRS 102 (or FRS 102 for small companies) and Charities SORP (if applicable).
- Liaise with our external accountant and ensure timely submission of annual returns to the Companies Registration Office (CRO) and Revenue Commissioners.
- Ensure compliance with GDPR and data protection requirements for financial records.
Strategic Support
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support the board’s decision-making.
- Advise on financial risks and opportunities, particularly in relation to funding, grants, and sustainability projects.
- Collaborate with the board to develop funding strategies, including grant applications and fundraising initiatives.
Governance & Best Practices
- Ensure transparency and accountability in all financial dealings.
- Uphold the principles of good governance and act in the best interests of Green Skibbereen.
- Support the board in reviewing and updating financial policies and procedures.
Person Specification:
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience in financial management, accounting, or bookkeeping (preferably for a not-for-profit or small organisation).
- Strong understanding of Irish financial regulations, tax compliance, and reporting requirements for CLGs.
- Proficiency in using accounting software (we use BrightBooks) and spreadsheet tools.
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret financial data and present it clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Commitment to environmental sustainability and alignment with Green Skibbereen’s values.
- Strong ethical standards and integrity.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience working with charities, community groups, or environmental organisations.
- Familiarity with grant funding and fundraising strategies.
- Knowledge of sustainability accounting or social impact reporting.
- Experience serving on a board or committee.
