Secretary of board of Trustees (remote role)
StreetDoctors Ireland (RCN: 20108052) is a charity that teaches first aid and CPR to young people at-risk of harm from violent crime and/or drug use. Founded by medical students and registered in 2017, Streetdoctors Ireland has grown from a small grass-roots organisation to an active and ambitious organisation bringing young people together in collaboration to tackle the harms to young people and their communities caused by violence and drug use.
Our volunteers teach in-person sessions with youth groups and young offenders. Our volunteers are medical students and resident doctors. Board members are welcome to attend teaching sessions but not expected to deliver teaching sessions themselves. Board activities are performed remotely and on Irish-time with board meetings usually Tuesday evenings or Saturday morning.
Opportunity specifics; this recruitment opportunity is for an appropriate candidate to join Streetdoctors Ireland as a trustee for a trial period of 2 months. In this time, handover of responsibilities and training of the new Trustee by the current Secretary will take place. At the 2 month point, the candidate will be formally appointed to the role of secretary pending successful integration and participation in board activities.
Essential candidate attributes
- experience as secretary ideally in the charity sector
- enthusiasm for working with young people
- agreeable to undergo Garda Vetting and have no relevant criminal record
- can commit approx 4-6 hours each month to Chairperson/Charity duties.
Desirable candidate attributes
- high computer literacy skills required for remote role including Word, drive/cloud management, Zoom/Google Meets, online banking etc.
- governance & policy experience in the charity sector
- youth charity sector experience
- interest in safeguarding
- interest in volunteer training & development
- experience in charity finance management and oversight
The Secretary is specifically responsible for organising the monthly meetings of the Board of Trustees including:
- giving notice for changes to meetings
- taking attendance
- recording minutes
- circulating prior minutes before meetings
We also expect our Secretary to be an active participant in Board of Trustee meetings. We welcome applications from anyone with governance, child protection, legal or medical experience but most importantly want motivated and energetic individuals who want to help us succeed.
