Liquid Therapy is an award-winning Irish surf charity dedicated to providing inclusive ocean and surf therapy programmes to young people, leveraging the therapeutic power of the ocean to enhance mental and physical wellbeing.

About the post:

This post has been filled for the last two years and in August 2026 the current secretary will be stepping down into the role of a trustee.

Our goal is to fill the post and provide the appropriate hand over time between the current and future secretary.

Time commitment: 

  • The Board meet quarterly either online or in person. (3 hours)
  • The Chair, CEO and Secretary meet online two in advance of each quarterly meeting to prepare the board pack. (1 hour)

Key Responsibilities:

The Board Secretary plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient functioning of the Board of Trustees and maintaining the charity's corporate governance standards.

  • Meeting Management: Organise, attend, and accurately minute all Board and relevant committee meetings. This includes setting agendas in collaboration with the Chairperson, distributing meeting packs in advance, and ensuring a timely review/approval process for minutes.

  • Compliance & Records: Ensure all Board processes comply with the charity's governing document and relevant legal/regulatory requirements (e.g., Charities Regulator). Maintain and safeguard all statutory registers, records, and documentation.

  • Communication Flow: Act as a central point for official Board correspondence and information, ensuring clear, timely communication of decisions and actions to Trustees and relevant stakeholders.

  • Administrative Support: Oversee the practical arrangements for Board meetings, including venue booking and logistical support (if applicable).

Skills & Experience

  • Essential: Excellent organisational and time management skills, strong attention to detail, and proficiency in drafting clear, concise minutes and reports.

  • Desirable: Previous experience serving as a company secretary, board secretary, or in a similar governance role within the charity or non-profit sector.
