Laois Leisure Board

ROLE:

The constitution specifies 10 directors. The Board are now looking to fill two specific Board positions that ensure that the board has the best mix of competencies and skills to ensure good governance and help Laois Leisure achieve its objectives. The Board are particularly interested in individuals with recent and relevant experience in HR and Finance.

MEETINGS:

Board meetings are held after 6pm (Approx. 12 meetings /year)

Members may also be asked to be asked to participate on a Board Sub Committee or act as a Board officer.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Main Roles and Responsibilities of all Board Directors of Laois Leisure include:

  • To ensure compliance with relevant company, and other legislation and the Constitution of Laois Leisure CLG.
  • To review and confirm on an annual basis the adequacy of internal financial controls;
  • To overseeing income and expenditure and the performance of the company.
  • To employ the General Manager and other employees of the company and ensure that they are achieving both their own and the companies’ objectives.
  • To produce annual reports and financial statements;
  • To maintain an appropriate relationship with the external auditor.
  • To prepare an Annual Business Plan and Strategic plan within the requirements set down by the Manager and Board members;
  • To actively engage in the work of the Board and to prepare for, engage in, and contribute to discussions at Board meetings  and provide professional advice, new perspectives, and/or constructive criticism in relation to issues raised.
  • To attend all Board meetings, unless absolutely unavoidable.
  • To review the Board’s operation and effectiveness.
  • To disclose any outside interest which may cause a conflict of interest or loyalty, as outlined in the organisations Conflict of Interest and Loyalty Policy
  • To provide particular expertise to areas including governance, human resources, finance, company secretary, legal, health and safety, data protection, leisure centre operations, marketing / communications including use of social media.

 

SUPPORT:

New Directors will be given an induction to the organisation by the Chairperson, the Company Secretary and the CEO and will be offered training and support throughout their period of appointment.

The position is voluntary, and no salary is payable

 

CURRENT ROLES:

  1.  Board member with HR experience                                                                                                
  2. Board member with Accounting/Finance experience.
