Macra is a thriving community of 17-40 year olds from 170 clubs in rural Ireland. We advocate for, nurture and develop our members in a fun, inclusive and supportive environment.

Macra attracts interest from many walks of life. With over 10,000 members organised on a club and county basis, just one third of our members work directly on farms.

The Role:

Macra is recruiting an independent board member with a strong understanding of the charity sector gained from either a previous board or an executive role.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience gained from the charity sector as a board member or senior executive.
  • Strong communication, strategic and analytical skills.
  • Experience of influencing and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Time to commit fully to the role.

There are no age restrictions, and it is not essential to have prior knowledge or experience of Macra.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide input to the strategic direction, contributing with insight, oversight and experience of strategy formulation in the sector.
  • To undertake responsibilities diligently and work together with other Trustees to promote the charitable purposes of Macra.
  • To comply with the governing document, charity law and relevant regulations.
  • Ensure Macra complies with its charitable purpose.
  • Act in the best interest of Macra and always act with reasonable care and skill.
  • To review organisational policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
  • To make objective, evidence-based decisions.
  • Champion the mission, vision and values and ethos of Macra.

Board Meetings:

There are 10/12 meetings per year held in-person, usually in a central Ireland location, from 7.30pm on a weekday evening. Meetings last 3 to 4 hours.

Sub-Committees: There are five sub-committees; Governance; Finance & Audit; Strategy; HR and Safeguarding.

Each sub-committee meets four times a year, online, for an hour.

The General Board Member will sit on one sub-committee.
